Advanced methods in observational epidemiological studies: new course from the SSPH+

Do you have an interest in applied data analysis? Do you want to learn how to analyze complex exposure-response patterns and learn all about the modern ways of thinking about confounding? Then the Swiss School of Public Health+ (SSPH+) has a course for you!

“Observational epidemiological studies: advanced methods for data analysis” is a course that will be held on 23-27 June 2014 at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Basel. Topics to be covered include the following:

• regression analyses with generalized linear models (glm)
• use of smoothing and splines in generalized additive models (gam)
• Poisson time series analysis
• confounding and effect modification incl. directed acyclic graphs
(DAG)
• inverse probability weighting.
• the concept of instrumental variables

The course is suitable for people familiar with the principals of linear and logistic regression modelling. Participants should also have practical experience with linear regression analysis, as well as working knowledge of the R statistical software. Not familiar with R? Do not worry! There is a course from the SSPH+ earlier in the year!

The course will be facilitated by Professor Joel Schwartz from the Harvard School of Public Health  and Martin Röösli  from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.
