Bad science explained: watch the video by Dr Ben Goldacre!
We have previously talked about how seing something published doesn’t make it true.
In that same post, I had recommended a list of online sources that deal with issues of studies of dubious methodology which somehow get a lot of press attention. This list included Bad Science, a blog by Dr Ben Goldacre , who does a great job at tackling questionnable scientific claims.
Dr. Goldacre gave a short talk which more or less summarizes the main issues of badly conducted science. The video is short, to the point and manages to simplify things that many people are scared to approach (i.e. statistics). You can see it here! I have decided to use it from now on when I am trying to explain to someone why they shouldn’ t believe everything they read or hear. It is certainly more eloquent than “being published doesn’t make it true”…
Enjoy and let me know what you think!
