Hot off the press: Poor health, employment transitions and gender
We recently published a very interesting paper looking at health selection in the context of transitions across employment statuses, with focus on gender differences.
The paper, written by Myung Ki and colleagues, uses data from the British Household Panel Survey and examines more than 60,000 employment transitions in almost 8,000 individuals.
The authors report that poor health status significantly affected transitions from employment to unemployment or inactivity for both men and women. Similarly, poor health lowered the probability of transition from unemployment or inactivity to employment for both genders; this difference, however, was statistically significant for women only.
